A lot of countries entail individuals who intend to get married to provide proof issued by a governmental authority that there exists no legal impediment to the marriage. However, there is no such authority in the United States. The Department of States does not issue any statement or authorization concerning whether a person living in the United States is able to marry abroad. There is no such a document in the United States. Basically, in the USA, marriage laws are ratified by the governments of the individual states, and there is no national marriage law or federal record of marriages. The laws of the several states concerning marriage differ, and the conditions for, or impediments to marriage vary widely. In the US Marriage licenses are settled upon written application by the persons concerned who announce themselves free to marry. It is necessary for them to provide the proof of the extinction of any earlier marriage. Therefore the individuals concerned are held responsible for their statements.
When applying for a Certificate of No Marriage Record, you have to complete an application form and pay the prescribed fee for a search of marriage record. However, there are still several things you need to follow. One should understand that the statements that need to be made in the application are true and correct. You are to provide all the required information. If you do not provide all of the information requested, particularly that relating to the reason the document is required and your relationship to the registered person, then you may not be provided with the certificate. This application will remain the property of the state where the certificate will be issued. Some or all of the information provided on the form you will need to fill out when applying for a Certificate of No Marriage Record, and some or all of the documents submitted as Proof of Identity, may be disclosed to and/or verified with Commonwealth agencies responsible for immigration, passports and citizenship, with State Registrars responsible for births and electoral registration, with driver licensing authorities, credit authorities and law enforcement agencies.
For getting a No Record of Marriage Statement you will have to complete several steps. First of all, you will need to provide such information as your full name as recorded on your birth certificate, your date of birth, mother’s maiden name, father’s name and a notice requesting a No Record Marriage Statement attesting that you have never been married in a certain state. You should also provide the copy of your ID. It can be a current, valid photo driver's license or photo non-driver's license, or a current, valid driver’s license without photo and one alternate form of ID, or two alternate forms of ID, one of which must have current address. However, you can also prove your identification with the help of bank statement, utility bill, vehicle registration etc. As for the payment, you will spend $25 for the No Record of Marriage Statement and $1 for each additional year searched. Records must be searched from age 16 to present.
